What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of disposable needles into pressure points along energy pathways of the body. This activates powerful healing forces and removes blockages to the flow of energy thus restoring balance. This is fundamental to the practice of acupuncture in Chinese Medicine.
Acupuncture is one of the most effective treatments for a wide range of muscle, nerve and joint related problems, as well as a variety of specific ailments and conditions. It can benefit acute injuries, or longer term, more chronic complaints.
Where was acupuncture originated?
Acupuncture was originated from China and the Chinese believe that the practice of acupuncture began during the Stone Age. The earliest documentation that refers to acupuncture procedures is The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine; it was compiled in Third Century BC.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most of the time it is painless with just the slightest pricking sensation. However it can vary from patient to patient and depend upon the position of the acupuncture point. If there is a lot of blocked energy at a point then you may feel a mild electric charge or slight stinging sensation. But any pain is very brief.
How will I feel after acupuncture?
Many patients feel very relaxed after treatment and may be a little tired. You will be able to get on with your day directly after the treatment but you might want to try not to plan to do anything strenuous and enjoy the chance to relax.
How soon will I see or feel the results?
This depends on the patient and the severity of their condition. It is most common for patients to feel the first effects of the treatment after one or two sessions but it may take a bit longer for some patients.
How many treatments will I need?
Each patient is unique, the number of treatments required will vary from patient to patient, the severity of the condition, and how long you have been suffering with it. In China a course of 10 treatments applied to all conditions to maximise the results.
Our recommendation is: have a first treatment, then have four or more follow-up sessions spaced roughly at weekly intervals to improve effectiveness. You can also discuss with Grace to find out what is the best option for you.
What should I wear for acupuncture?
Loose trousers and tops with sleeves that can be rolled up are ideal for acupuncture, because the most commonly used acupuncture points are located below the knees and elbows, so it is helpful if you wear something that allows easy access to those areas.
Should I eat before my acupuncture treatment?
Yes – please have something light to eat before a treatment.
Are there any side effects of acupuncture?
Yes, the most common side effects of acupuncture are the things everyone wants: Better sleep, mental clarity, more energy, better digestion and less stress. The possible down side effects: a bit of soreness, minor bleeding or bruising at the needle sites.
How does cosmetic acupuncture works?
Cosmetic Acupuncture has been used as early as the Song Dynasty (960AD - 1279AD) for the Empress and Emperor's concubines in China. The acupuncture points for cosmetic acupuncture session have all been chosen specifically with the overall achievement of wellbeing in mind. Cosmetic acupuncture works both locally and internally. Locally it will help collagen formation, reduce wrinkles, improve skin nourishment and reduce blood stasis which causes dark circles and scarring. Internally acupuncture will help to reduce heat and damp which causes skin conditions. It will also improve blood circulation to the skin, help detox the body and improve general wellbeing. All this leads to improved skin elasticity, clear complexion, reduced signs of ageing and glowing, nourished skin.
How quickly will I see the results of the cosmetic acupuncture?
You should usually see an improvement in your skin within a few sessions although most people notice an immediate difference after a treatment.
In order to maximise the results, we recommend our clients a minimum course of 6 to 12 weekly sessions, then bi-weekly or monthly treatment to maintain the result.
Why should I choose cosmetic acupuncture?
Cost effective: as it costs much less than Western medical therapies.
Virtually painless. Safe, no side effects or risks of disfigurement, unlike Western therapies.
There is no trauma from Cosmetic Acupuncture, unlike surgery, that may have extended recovery periods with swelling, discoloration and the chance of infection.
It is a totally natural and health way to look and feel years younger.
Is cosmetic acupuncture suitable for everyone?
Cosmetic acupuncture is suitable for women and men who want to slow down the ageing process and to look healthy and younger. However it is not recommended for the people who have the following conditions:
“I consulted Grace with shoulder, arm and lower back pain arising from an historical injury several years previously. Grace was very thorough in establishing my medical history and examining the problem areas so she could pin point her treatment. After a few sessions the pain and discomfort were greatly reduced and after further sessions eliminated altogether. Based on these results I will be arranging further treatments to treat other old sports injuries and improve my general wellbeing.
I feel Grace is an innate healer who brings a holistic approach to her technical acupuncture skills and I have no hesitation in commending her to anyone seeking treatment. ”
